Please join us at our March Chapter Meeting where Attorney and well-being expert Laura Mahr will present Mitigating Vicarious Trauma and Compassion Fatigue in Law Practice Management.
While most law practice management professionals interact with clients or colleagues experiencing acute stress and/or trauma, many have never received adequate training on how to mitigate the personal and professional impact. This training equips participants with strategies to maintain cognitive functioning, emotional composure, and physiological regulation when working with clients and/or colleagues in crisis, high stress, or trauma-impacted situations. Participants learn tips for how to recognize signs that they or a colleague are experiencing unprocessed vicarious trauma and/or compassion fatigue. In addition, participants learn how to reduce the impact of vicarious trauma/compassion fatigue using on-the-job strategies. At the end of the training, participants have a toolkit filled with vicarious trauma and compassion fatigue mitigation strategies that they can implement before, during, and after work. Participants leave the course better able to identify and mitigate vicarious trauma and compassion fatigue, thereby more capable to deal with challenges and more available to enjoy their work and their lives.
Participants will leave with the theory and tools to:
● understand vicarious trauma and compassion fatigue through the lens of neurobiology
● return to a state of mental and emotional regulation when working with others in crisis and in acute stress professional environments
● mitigate vicarious trauma to prevent absorbing others’ crisis
● protect one’s own well-being while optimizing client support
● integrate vicarious trauma and compassion fatigue mitigation practices into the workday to maximize cognitive functioning, productivity, resilience
